øje is a cleverly crafted precision platforming adventure where completing the game is easy, but the more you explore and the more collectibles you collect the more complex and harder it gets.
Created for Ludum Dare 45, you can complete øje easily by just walking to the right until you reach the goal. However, to properly complete the game you’ll need to collect all the collectables which makes things MUCH harder…
To complete øje properly you need to collect 20 each of the Black, Red, Blue and Yellow coins. These coins only appear when you have collected the corresponding token, but collecting the tokens can alter the game world in some very significant ways (adding platforms, spikes and moving hazards). The red and the blue tokens make things particularly challenging, so it can be best to collect as many of the other coins as you can before collecting them.
It’s a unique little platformer that essentially builds the world as you play, making things progressively harder in the process. It’s an inventive concept executed with a great visual style and a wonderfully eerie soundtrack that adds a lot to the atmosphere. Very tough, but well worth checing out if you’re up for a challenge!
