Haunted Lands is a challenging blood-splattered retro 2D action game where you use a shotgun to blast your way through hordes of undead monstrosities.
It’s a homage to classic games like DOOM and Dangerous Dave, but there also seems to be a touch of Resident Evil to Haunted Lands. This is largely to the shotgun-based combat, where you have to actively press the reload button and you are unable to move when aiming or firing it – effectively making it feel like a 2D version of RE’s classic tank controls. The rest of the game feels very much like a classic old school arcade shooter though, with stylish pixel art visuals and fast paced zombie blasting gameplay.
Haunted Lands features two difficulty modes (essentially “Very Hard” and “Extremely Hard”), two playable characters with unique stats and six levels of zombie shooting fun. It takes a little time to get used to the controls and it’s a punishingly tough game, but it’s a lot of fun and your mighty shotgun can do some serious damage to that soft zombie flesh!
